Program Description

The Sociology major prepares prepares students to understand current social issues and social behavior and develop crucial skills in scientific research, writing, evaluation and critical thinking. The program is based on the traditional emphasis of institutions, collective behavior and the socialization process. The program provides the core foundation for understanding the social structure and its patterns, stressing the influence of systems, and highlighting issues and policies. Graduates will be prepared for a broad range of career options and graduate and professional studies in fields such as business, healthcare, government, education, and social services. Students are encouraged to pursue a complimentary minor. Students may complete a double major in Psychology and Sociology by substituting overlapping courses. Sociology majors may also complete a Psychology or Christian Behavioral Science minor.
