Program Description
The Elementary Education major prepares students for careers working with children and families in public elementary schools. Students complete the state-approved Elementary Subject Matter (ESM) Program, which satisfies the subject-matter competency requirement of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
Completion of the major qualifies students for a California teaching credential upon successful completion of all requirements. Because this is a state-approved program, requirements are subject to change based on state or federal law.
Students may also elect to stack optional concentrations to earn credentials in high need fields and maximize their employability. Concentrations include:
* Mild/Moderate Support Needs
* Extensive Support Needs
* Bilingual Authorization (BILA)
Students choosing the Elementary Education major must be admitted into the Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential program. Candidates must complete all credential and state requirements to be eligible for a credential. Credential requirements can be obtained from the School of Education success coaches.
